It can be difficult to drive in areas where there are pedestrians, bicyclists, children and animals. It’s even worse when people have their phones out.
The city of Mulberry, Florida is putting up dozens of signs warning drivers of “smartphone zombies”. They’re not warning drivers about other drivers. They’re concerned about PEDESTRIANS who are so engrossed in their phones that they’re not paying attention to vehicles around them.
I once watched a guy on his smartphone walk into a lamppost in downtown Aberdeen. I’ve shared many stories over the years of pedestrians getting seriously hurt and injured while gawking at their smartphone.
A Mulberry city official says he got the idea from a meme. He thinks it’s especially important in areas around schools and libraries where kids are often walking around on their phones.
And so…just like drivers…pedestrians need to put the phone away and pay attention.
